. CLASSICAL DRAWING ATELIER WITH MANDY BOURSICOT DOWNLOAD COMPLETE PROGRAM HERE DEMO OF MANDY'S FIGURE DRAWING CLASS 'Mandy is a born teacher. I don't know a single student who hasn't progressed massively, under her patient and thought-provoking training. Trust me, you will learn 'how' to draw.' FOUNDATION WORKSHOP This weekend workshop is designed for absolute beginners who wish to start right, and build a solid foundation for further drawing, and for those who wish to draw in the Classical Realist method. The Academic Process has its roots in European 19th Century Ateliers.
The premise of this method is that anyone can learn to draw very well, given an understanding of the principles, application of skills and guidance from a master draughtsman. Classical Drawing is built on accurately blocking the form, establishing a light and shadow pattern, and then defining and refining the subject. In this workshop, students will be introduced to those steps and principles essential to all classical drawing. Demos and hands-on exercises will be performed to strengthen the student's understanding and application of these elements. We will also discuss the Classical Order of Light, and how light is essential to revealing the form. This introductory workshop will cover both figure drawing and portrait drawing. DATES Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22.
$220+GST, limited enrollment FIGURE DRAWING GROUP Regular class resumes in August 2013, with a 4-week sustained pose with female model. This class is designed for those intermediate students who are familiar with basic concepts of classical drawing. Students will apply the principles of measuring and achieving accurate proportion, capturing the balance and essential gesture of the pose. Based on the initial blocking-in, students will establish the construct of the figure, map in the shadow shapes, and then articulate the light and shadow pattern of the form. The long pose allows for time and focus to add the fall of light and big-form modelling, and to then bring the drawing to a finish with the variations of the darks and the rendering of the lights.
Students may elect to draw with graphite on white paper, or to use charcoal and chalk on grey paper. Advanced students may elect to paint the figure.
DATES (MONDAYS) August 5, 12, 19, 26, September 2, 9, 16, 23, October 7, 14, 21, 28, -November 4, 11, 18, 25. $240 + GST per month. Fee payable monthly in advance by cheque. Based on these placement markers, students map in the shadow shapes, and then articulate the light and shadow pattern of the form. The long pose allows for time and focus to build on big-form modelling, and to then bring the drawing to a finish with the variations of the darks and the rendering of the lights. This allows for each student to decide their own area of interest, from beginner to advanced levels, all with the aim of mastering the skills needed for creating highly realistic drawings and paintings. Students variously work on Charles Bargue drawings, Master copies, the plaster cast, still life, or anatomy. They may also opt for personalized instruction in introductory drawing fundamentals.
Students first work in graphite pencil and once basic skills and concepts are mastered, may move on to other dry media, such as charcoal and chalk, and then to oil painting.
